Kalabhairava, The fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva associated with annihilation was incarnated on Ashtami of Krishna Paksha of Margashirsha month. It is mentioned in the Shatrudra Samhita of Shiv Puran, that Lord Shiva took incarnation as Kalabhairava.

At the Time of Aurangzeb's Rule, when Kashi Vishavanath Temple was demolished. Aurzngzeb's Soldiers went to break Kaal Bhairava's Temple at Kashi. According to the Legends, When the Soldiers reached there, sudden a group of Rabid Dogs came there barking. The soldiers after being bitten by dogs, they immediately went insane and started Hurting each others. Few ran from there to save their lives. Atlast Aurangzeb had to Kill all those soldiers who went insane.

Kalabhairava is worshiped Throughout the country but According to Different Traditions prevailing there. Not only in India, In Nepal Bhairava is one of most prominent gods there.

Kaal Bhairava's Temples can be found near Lord Shiva and goddess Shakti's Temples as According to the Purana Shiva allocated him the Job to guard the Shakti peethas. It is believed that there are more than 50 forms of Bhairava.
